I Have a WHAT????

When I was a wee, wee tot, my mother went to nursing school. She'd come home from her classes and wow me with things she had learned (a practice she continued even after graduating and working as a nurse). She was impressed by what she learned and her excitement was contagious. I ate up all the tidbits she shared—how many bones in a hand, the parts of the skull,—and the fascinating "fact" that some organs had become obsolete through the years, like the appendix.
All my life I harbored that last fact as a done deal. Doctors and scientists alike saw no use for the appendix, so they theorized that, as man evolved, his need for it had been outgrown. Now the appendix was a superfluous organ. Appendicitis? No problema (as we say in Spanish). Just cut that "unnecessary" appendix out—it's good for nothing anyway. Because of evolution.
I believe that God is the Creator of the universe. I do not believe in evolution. Yet I believed this so called "fact." I had learned it as a child and simply believed it, never stopping to consider that Biblical creation is completely in opposition to "superfluous" organs. Then I ran across a page on Facebook called Biblical Creation. A page with a post about new info learned about ye olde appendix.
In short, if you google info on the appendix's use, you will come across new information gleaned from recent research. It has now been determined that the appendix may not be as "superfluous" as previously thought. In fact, it harbors beneficial bacteria that helps our immune system. Vestigial, indeed!
My jaw dropped as I read. I had never realized how the belief I had held all my life was erroneous, based as it was on the theory of evolution. All my life I had embraced the concept, giving no thought whatsoever to its being a discrediting theory to God's creation.
Dear God, forgive me.
There was a reason why Paul said, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind ..." The world system is juxtaposed 180 degrees to God's economy. And how, pray tell, do we renew our minds? Ephesians 5:26 says that Jesus cleanses and sanctifies the church by "the washing of water by the word." We transform our minds by washing it daily, washing away the thoughts and belief systems of the world, and putting in their place the perfect Word of God.
Decades after giving my life to Jesus, decades of continually washing away the influences of the world through the dedicated reading of God's Word, I am living the sad truth that sometimes we don't even realize how warped by the world our thought processes are. Vestigial organs, indeed! Do tell!
In the New Testament, when the disciples talked to Jews, they referenced Jesus through the Old Testament scriptures. Do you know what they used as a reference when they talked to gentiles, those who did not have a foundation in the Old Testament and to whom, therefore, the Old Testament had no meaning? They referenced God as the Creator. The devil has to attack the belief in God as Creator so that gentiles, those who need to recognize God through a means other than the Old Testament scriptures, don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to believing on Jesus. Evolution is hands down one of the devil's most successful ploys in discrediting the reality of God to the non-Jewish world. And I was playing right into his sleazy hands!
May Jesus search us and show us those thoughts that we harbor without even realizing that they are totally against God's reality. May our thoughts reflect in every way His glory and His alone.
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139:23-24).
"Casting down imaginations, and every high things that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5).
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom" (Colossians 3:16).
